The South African police have not got the most flashiest cars, but the newly released Volkswagen Golf GTI is recently delivered to the Durban Metro Police Service.

The new Golf GTI is the most powerful GTI even with its Mk 8.5 model, offering a stunning design and blending Polo’s iconic boxy shape to GTI’s timeless aesthetics. The new GTI is not as Performance-oriented as the ‘R’ variants, but showcases plenty of rowdiness with its peppy engine and exhaust sounds.

Durban is SA’s largest city which has its own challenges when it comes to policing. These new high-performance vehicles will be offered to the Policemen after passing their advanced driver training course to address public concerns about law-enforcement offer’s driving manners.

The Police department itself ensures public safety via the driving course, to further offer professional training to the drivers of these high-powered machines.

The new Golf GTI’s aren’t the only performance cars taken by the SA’s law enforcement in 2024. In February of this year, the special organized crime and corruption investigation unit, the Directorate for Priority Crimes Investigations (Hawks) took delivery of 22 hot hatches.

Final Thoughts

So adding powerful machines in the city’s police department is not a bad decision after all as it offers better abilities to catch speeding drivers and suspects with better vehicles than the law enforcement officers making the addition of the new GTI a more practical and sensible choice. The Durban Police Department’s new GTIs costs around $47,500 before adding to the department’s fleet as the automaker has discontinued the manual gearbox model a while ago.

South Africa’s police cars will evolve with the time after this new addition in their fleet, offering practical and affordable option to it. The Police department will work on regular training of the drivers to prioritize better safety for its citizens as these high-performance vehicles poses several risks to the city people’s lives.
